Rarely in translation does a word in one language correspond directly to a word in another. A single term can often be translated in numerous ways. The right choice depends on the context.
A termbase (short for ‘terminology database’) is a tool used by translators to manage terminology with the help of a translation memory. It contains a wealth of descriptive information about each term, such as definitions, grammatical information, explanations about correct and incorrect usage, as well as synonyms.
A termbase helps translators to choose the correct translation for each context and enables them to translate more quickly and efficiently, whilst also ensuring that their clients receive correct, coherent and accurate translations.
